Jamie & Joni

My name is Joni, I am 19 years old and have Netherland Dwarfs. I just started my sophomore year at PLU. I would like to thank the American Netherland Dwarf Club, McDonalds and my boss Alex for the generous scholarships. Jamie no longer breeds rabbits and just has a couple of pets left, she works at Hairmasters. Joni belongs to American Rabbit Breeders Association, Washington State RBA, Evergreen Rabbit Breeders Association, and The American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Club.

Why we got into Rabbits

Jamie was 12 years old when she first got rabbits. She wanted to show our cats in the fair, but our mom said no, so she said that Jamie could get chickens or a rabbit. Jamie didn`t want chickens because you can't cuddle with them so she bought two rabbits. It turned out neither of the rabbits that she bought were showable so Jamie gave Joni the Buck and she bought a show one. Then that year at fair Joni wanted to show a rabbit, so she bought a lilac Netherland Dwarf at the end of the fair. Our whole family fell in love with the little gems and would never be able to get rid of our first few.

Why Jamie started the Rabbit project in our 4-H

Right after Jamie got her first rabbit, the rabbit 4-H club in Enumclaw split up. The only other 4-H clubs around were in Bonney Lake, Puyallup, Issaquah, and Kent. We didn`t want to drive that far and some were full, so Jamie started an independant study off of our Home Ec club, it wasn't much fun studying alone.  After 1 year Jamie decided to start a rabbit project with other kids from our Home Ec club.  That's when Joni joined the rabbit project.  The club has grown with new members starting and old members leaving, including Jamie and Joni, but it has been alot of fun.
